Designed to fit within a heavily wooded garden, this building is of timber framed construction fitted around a steel frame to ensure large unobstructed versatile room spaces. Clad externally with waney edge larch boarding, the building has been insulated to a high standard and benefits from a WC/shower room and kitchenette on the 1st floor, to enable use as ancillary accommodation to the main house when needed.
One of the main problems was the numerous trees on site, dictating that normal foundations were not possible. A reinforced concrete slab on ground beams was designed to protect the tree roots and ensure the building had a stable base.
Drainage was then the next hurdle, owing to the level issues. A suitably sized mini domestic pumping station was sourced to ensure this problem was overcome with minimal fuss.
